We’re passionate about serving our customers, supporting the health and wellness needs of our community, and showcasing on our shelves over 150 local partners, all made right here in the Pacific Northwest.

TREATING WASHINGTON WELL SINCE 1890

Bartell Drugs began in Seattle, WA in 1890 when a roguish 21-year-old pharmacist named George H. Bartell Sr. purchased a small pharmacy in Seattle’s Central District. From there, he built his business from a foundation of exceptional customer service, providing a personalized pharmacy experience, and offering innovative products and services. This combination allowed Bartell, his children, and grandchildren to successfully grow and shape the business to the 67 stores and pharmacy locations it is today.

1890

George Bartell Sr. founded Bartell Drugs in Seattle’s Central District

1919

Film development and photo services became available

1925

Bartell Drugs opens its 10th location, our Wallingford store still standing strong on 45th St.

1930

Bartell’s Candy Kitchen successfully makes and produces chocolates and treats to sell to customers

1935

Bartell’s opens up its Soda Fountain, serving lunch, beverages and ice-cream at its famous Triangle Store

1956

After the passing of Bartell’s founder, his son George Bartell Jr. continues his father’s legacy

1990

George Bartell Jr. passes the business onto his son George D. Bartell. Three years later, his daughter, Jean Bartell-Barber, also joins the company

2001

The first of many flu shots are given by Bartell pharmacists

2009

Bartell’s installs growler fills at select Bartell locations around town.

2018 – 2020

Kathi Lentzsch joins Bartell Drugs as their CEO and President

130 YEARS

Bartell’s celebrates its 130th Anniversary serving the Pacific Northwest

2020

Bartell Drugs becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Rite Aid, still proudly serving the Pacific Northwest.

Bartell’s cares about giving back to the greater Seattle community. Through September 2020, we’ve raised over $250,000 to support local food pantries, seniors during the COVID pandemic, and children and families as they head back to school.
